Reign commence avec des soldats dans la neige. Une chorale chante alors qu'un combat commence. La porte d'un monastère s'ouvre et les hommes se précipitent dans le sanctuaire.

Mary va à la rencontre de Louis dans les bois. Elle lui dit qu'elle était inquiète qu'il ne revienne pas. Il dit qu'il est rentré chez lui pour réfléchir. Elle dit qu'elle ne peut pas partir alors que François a envoyé des troupes pour défendre sa couronne. Marie dit qu'elle l'aime toujours et qu'elle a eu l'impression de mourir quand il est partie. Elle lui demande s'il est venu lui dire au revoir. Elle dit qu'elle veut qu'ils soient ensemble. Louis l'embrasse.

Kenna trouve Bash qui revient d'une promenade . Et elle lui parle de sa blessure. Il dit qu'il va bien. Elle dit qu'il n'a pas besoin de fuir le château pour s'éloigner d'elle. Il dit qu'il va bien . Elle lui demande pourquoi il est allée dans les bois et il dit qu'il était avec un ami, il a passé du temps avec. Elle dit qu'il n'a pas d'amis, seulement des gens à qui il est lié comme son frère ou elle. Elle demande si cet ami est une femme et il dit oui, mais que ce n'est pas ces affaires.

Bash va parler à François du monastère bénédictin qui a été attaqué par les rebelles protestants. Ils sont beaucoup et ont pris des enfants en otage. Mary arrive et dit que c'est le châtiment pour avoir envoyé des troupes pour soutenir les catholiques en Ecosse. Ils sont maintenant préoccupés par une attaque sur le château . Les parents des enfants du monastère viennent pour se plaindre de la décision du roi d'envoyer des troupes en Ecosse.

François dit qu'ils vont capturer les rebelles. Marie dit qu'ils traiteront leurs enfants comme s'ils étaient les leurs. Catherine emmènent les parents à l'écart. Mary dit qu'elle ne peut pas imaginer la peur de ces enfants. François la rassure et dit qu'elle est en sécurité avec lui. François n'est pas heureux de voir que Louis est de retour et Marie dit qu'elle voulait l'avertir de son retour. François dit qu'il ne se soucie pas de ce qu'elle fait depuis qu'elle a voulut l'abandonner et s' enfuir avec son cousin.

Catherine est seule avec Narcisse et elle est contrariée du fait que Louis a profité de Marie quand elle était vulnérable. Il demande pourquoi elle est vulnérable. Catherine ne dit rien et il commence à l'embrasser. Il dit qu'il a des plans pour se débarrasser de Louis mais que quelques hommes pourraient mourir. Elle dit que les hommes meurent chaque jour en France. Il dit qu'il va lui dire son plan mais avant il l'embrasse.

Kenna parle avec Lola, elle ne peut pas croire que Bash soit déjà amoureux de quelqu'un d'autre. Lola lui rappelle qu'elle était prête à laisser Bash. Kenna dit que rien n'a changé et elle ne veut plus de Bash. Elle s'interroge sur Greer et elles sont d'accord pour lui amener de l'argent . Elles vont voir sa nouvelle maison et Greer explique que les femmes travaillent pour elle et qu'elle est une "madame".
Elle dit qu'elle est tombée dedans sans le vouloir. Kenna dit qu'elle est modeste. Greer dit qu'elle sait ce n'est pas idéal, mais affirme que ça paie bien et qu'elle se sent enfin indépendante. Elle dit qu'elle est heureuse . Elles jouissent du champagne.

Narcisse voit des cadavres qui sous entendent que Louis est impliqué dans le crime.

Bash vient faire run apport à François et Mary ,ils ne peuvent pas sauver les garçons . Les rebelles ont 30 barils de poudre et vont probablement faire sauter l'église, les garçons et eux-mêmes. François dit que tout ça c'est la faute de Marie car il a protégé l'Ecosse malgré son plan pour s'enfuir. François demande à Bash d'aller essayer de sauver les garçons et de donner sa vie . Il part.
Bash et ses hommes sont aux portes du monastère. Il voit un des cadavres que Narcisse a vu et il voit le sceau de Louis.Des Archers arrivent à abattre des gardes, et ils ouvrent les portes. Ils se glissent jusqu'aux portes de l'église. Bash dit que quelque chose ne va pas et ses hommes sont abattus par les archers. Il hurle de se replier mais beaucoup meurent.

Kenna, Lola et Mary parlent des enfants.Lola demande si Marie est toujours avec Louis mais elle dit que François la tolère et dit que leur mariage est terminé. Elle dit que Louis a risqué beaucoup pour elle, mais Lola dit qu'il l'a aidé à traverser une période douloureuse. Elle se demande si Marie ressent de la gratitude ou de l' amour pour lui.

Bash est de retour et dit à François que leur plan a échoué. Il dit que ces hommes sont des soldats, mais ne sont pas formés pour un conflit comme celui-ci. Mary dit que les rebelles sont en alerte maintenant.

Catherine dit que les hommes de Renaud pourraient gérer cela, mais François dit qu'il ne peut pas faire confiance à Narcisse . Bash conseille à François d'accepter l'offre et dit que les hommes de Renaud sont connus pour leurs compétences. Bash dit qu'il va les rejoindre et François indique à Bash d'être prudent et de ne pas faire confiance à Narcisse. En privé, il raconte à François qu'il a vu le sceau de Louis sur certains des corps. Bash dit qu'il sait que Louis a rencontré les dirigeants protestants. Bash dit que Louis peut voir la rébellion comme un chemin vers le pouvoir.

François lui dit que si Louis est impliqué, rien ne pourra le garder en sécurité. Bash est avec les hommes de Renaud. Ils attribuent les postes. Ils savent que les garçons sont dans la chapelle. Ils font un travail rapide et sanglant puis arrêtent celui qui a la poudre à canon. Les enfants pleurent mais sont sauvés.

Louis vient voir Mary . Elle demande pourquoi il est venu la voir si ouvertement. Il lui parle des corps qui ont été trouvés avec son sceau et dit que les corps ont été plantés là pour le piéger pour . Elle dit que François serait incapable de fabriquer des preuves, mais Louis dit que ses ennemis se multiplient de jour en jour. Il dit que les gens le déteste parce qu'il l'aime et parce qu'il est protestant. Il dit que s'il était François, il voudrait sa mort aussi. Il dit qu'il doit quitter la cour et la France .
Il la supplie de partir en Ecosse avec lui. Marie dit qu'elle l'aime, mais qu'elle ne peut pas partir. Louis dit qu'ils doivent terminer leur relation. Marie dit qu'elle est désolée et dit qu'elle pensait que l'amour serait suffisant. Louis dit qu'elle l'avait averti. Mary dit qu'il ne peut pas s'enfuir pour toujours et lui demande de la laisser parler à François. Elle dit qu'il lui a rendu sa vie et lui demande de la laisser sauver la sienne. Il est d'accord puis quitte la pièce.

Bash attend Renaud ,il lui dit qu'ils ont tué tous les radicaux.Il dit qu'ils ont tué deux garçons dans un dortoir avant de pouvoir les arrêter et dit que son lieutenant a été tué d'un coup de couteau à la poitrine.

Marie vient voir François et dit que Louis n'a rien à voir avec l'attaque. Mary dit que les corps ont été plantés là pour le piéger. François dit que deux garçons sont morts dans le monastère et dit qu'il ne peut pas fermer les yeux sur l'implication possible de Louis. François dit que Louis a profité de Marie quand elle était vulnérable et a volé sa femme.

Marie dit qu'elle s'est offerte à lui et dit qu'elle l'a amené dans cette voie et ne peut pas l'abandonner maintenant. Elle dit qu'elle ne pouvait pas supporter d'être dans la chambre avec François, où elle a été attaquée. Elle dit que même si François ne veut pas lui faire confiance, il peut encore faire confiance à Louis. Il accepte de parler aux nobles.

Seigneur Akers trouve Louis dans la cour et dit que sa relation avec Mary est un problème. Louis demande pourquoi il lui parle encore de son offre de mariage avec Elizabeth.
Akers dit qu'il peut rester et faire face à son destin en France ou venir en Angleterre et rencontrer la Reine. Louis dit qu'il va partir avec lui immédiatement. Akers dit que la reine est sous pression intense de se marier et de mettre un homme sur le trône. Il dit que la Reine a déjà accepté son offre et dit qu'il sera consort , roi d'Angleterre. Louis est choqué mais prêt rencontrer la Reine.

Lola et Kenna vont voir Greer et sont prises pour des filles qui travaillent là . Kenna dit qu'elles sont là pour Greer et ne sont pas des prostituées. Lola a apporté des chiffons pour les rideaux et Kenna voit Renaud. Elle veut lui parler mais Lola dit qu'elle ne peut pas la laisser dans une maison close. Elle insiste.

Lola sort et est accueilli par Narcisse. Il demande pourquoi elle était dans un bordel et elle dit qu'elle n'a rien à lui expliquer et il dit qu'il a entenduque son amie était la patronne.
Narcisse dit qu'elle a besoin d'être plus discrete et il dit qu'elle a dépassé la spéculation négative car son fils est estimé. Il lui conseille de ne pas laisser diminuer sa position. Elle lui demande pourquoi il se soucie d'elle et il dit qu'il ne sait pas. Narcisse dit qu'il allait la reconduire, mais n'est pas le bienvenue à la cour. Il la laisse là. Un homme regarde l'échange.

Kenna demande à Greer ce qu'aime Renaud et elle dit que c'est sa première fois et elle ne sait pas, ces penchants.Greer dit que ses dames ont appri que certains de ses hommes lui reprochernt la mort de son lieutenant.

Akers emmène Louis pour rencontrer la reine. La mariée porte un voile. Ils se tiennent debout devant un prêtre. Il lève son voile. Mary écrit à Louis une note disant qu'il est en sécurité et sous la protection de François. Elle envoie un messager. Elizabeth a envoyé une procuration pour la représenter lors du mariage comme c'était la coutume à l'époque.

Il met une bague à son doigt symbolisant le mariage avec Elizabeth. Ils l'appellent roi Louis Condé d'Angleterre, puis s'agenouillent. Ils se retrouvent au lit avec un sabre entre lui et la femme représentant Elisabeth. Il demande son nom et elle dit qu'elle s'appelle Annabelle Breton. Il demande comment elle est devenue substitue de la reine d'Angleterre Elle xplique ses racines protestantes. Elle lui demande s' il va être un bon roi et lui offre de parler de la reine d'Angleterre. Il dit qu'il ne veut pas parler.

Annabelle lui demande si la France va lui manquer. Nous voyons Marie debout regardant le feu. Akers et Louis entendent sonner les cloches et voient du feu. Il dit qu' Annabelle dormait encore. Akers dit qu'il doit s'assurer que ce n'était pas une tentative pour tuer Louis.

Renaude approche Kenna au château et fait des commentaires sur le bordel. Elle dit qu'elle a entendu qu'il fêtait une grande victoire.
Elle remarque que d'avoir sauvé un enfant a causé la perte d'un de ces hommes. Renaud dit qu'il a perdu son propre fils il ya quelques années quand il fut fait prisonnier par les ennemis et dit qu'il ne sait toujours pas s'il est vivant ou mort. Renaude dit qu'elle semble déçu de certain noble et il lui dit que Bash a montré une grande valeur. Il a invité Bash pour fêter la victoire. Il dit que Bash est partie voir une femme et il est heureux que ce ne soit pas Kenna. Il s' éloigne.

Le corps d'Annabelle est enlevé. On dirait qu'elle est morte de l'inhalation de fumée. Akers trouve Louis et dit que la jeune fille est morte, le prêtre aussi et les documents ont été brûlé. Il dit qu'il doit consulter sa reine avant de pouvoir les marier à nouveau. Louis dit que c'était un choix judicieux de tuer Annabelle. Il dit que le fait d' épouser Elizabeth est une trahison et supplie Akers de l'emmener en Angleterre. Il dit qu'Elizabeth lui doit bien ça, mais Akers dit que ce n'est pas le cas et il part.

Narcisse dit à Catherine qu'il a mis en place le plan, mais Marie a pu le sauver. Catherine dit que Louis a fait quelque chose de pire ,il a épousé la reine Elizabeth par procuration .Elle dit qu'il y'a eu un incendie qui a détruit toutes les preuves. Ils se demandent si la preuve a survécu. Narcisse dit que ça pourrait donner à Elizabeth l'occasion de venir en France. Narcisse demande si elle a fait ça. Elle dit non, et lui demande s'il est responsable. Il demande s'ils vont tous deux être constamment en train de se demander ce que l'autre à fait comme plan. Elle dit oui et qu'il a rencontré son "match".

L'homme de Catherine ,Edmund rapporte que Narcisse a été vu à l'extérieur d'un bordel en train de parler à Lola. Il dit qu'ils ont parlé brièvement. Catherine demande comment ils semblaient quand ils parlaient.

François dit à Marie que Louis a épousé Elizabeth par procuration. Il lui parle de l'incendie criminel et dit qu'ils ne savent pas si Louis s'est enfuit comme roi consort d'Angleterre. Mary lui dit qu'elle savait qu'Elizabeth était intéressée et que Louis a juré de rejeter sa proposition. Mary lui dit qu'il a fait ça car elle rompu avec Louis ,elle a choisi de se tenir auprès de François en tant que reine . Elle dit qu'elle essaie de faire ce qui est le mieux.

François lui demande s'il devrait la remercier pour ça et dit qu'elle a peut-être fait la bonne chose sur le plan politique .Elle n'est pas différente de Louis ,elle recherche un avenir politique. François dit que si Louis est marié à Elizabeth, ça peut être la fin à leur règne.

Bash; Protestant rebels have seized the Benedictine monastery outside Angers.There are at least a dozen of them, heavily armed.They've rounded up the children, killed all the guards and the monks.

Francis: Oh, my God.

bash: Save two who managed to escape.

Mary: I just heard.How many are dead?

bash: At least 40. 19 hostages.If the boys are still alive.

Francis: Children.

Mary: What are these radicals doing?

Bash: Ransoming them, or do they plan to slaughter them, as well?

Francis: It's further retaliation for sending our troops into Scotland.

Mary: For supporting me, a Catholic queen.

Francis: I knew that there would be consequences.France had to honor its alliance.

Mary: Francis, the parents, some of the local nobles are beginning to gather to meet with us.(bell tolling in distance)

Throne room:

Francis: Has General Savoy and his men returned?

Bash: He's still in Scotland doing another advance sweep, in the Borderlands.

Francis: We need those troops.We'll put together a team from the castle, as many soldiers as we can spare.

Bash: These men aren't trained for that type of mission.Extracting children from an armed assault.

Francis: The boys could die in the melee.Prepare them anyway, as a last resort.

A man: What are you doing to save our sons?

Francis: We are sending envoys to negotiate their release, and if that fails, we will secure the safest possible route to rescue them.

A man: This scum would never have dared to take our sons hostage, or kill men of God, if our army were here.

Mary: Count, watch your tongue.I know that you fear for the life of your son, but you are addressing your sovereign king.

Francis: These rebels will be captured and hanged, and I will do everything in this nation's power to return your sons to you safely.

Mary: We know there is nothing more precious to you than your children, and we will defend them as if they were our own.Come, let us leave the king to attend to your sons.

(murmuring)(sighs)

Mary: What's wrong?

Francis: Those poor boys must be terrified, trapped by violent men, not knowing if they're going to die.

MARY: You can't even imagine, Francis.

Francis: We will save them.And you are safe... here with me.

catherine: It doesn't matter.Every time I see him I want to tear him to pieces, I want to crush him in my fist.

narcisse: You... are so frustrated.

catherine: Oh...Well, not the least of which because I have to endure a freezing carriage every time I crave your touch.

Narcisse: Well... it won't be long before I am slipping into your warm, royal bed.(chuckles)I have a few ideas about my return to court already.

cartherine: Do you never stop calculating?

narcisse: No.Hmm?Never.Mm.General Renaude can help us with one plan.And the other... could dispatch the Prince of Condé permanently.

kenna: No.We'd still have the same problems between us.You know, he wouldn't spend a moment at home with me, yet he would happily die for a stranger, if it were for a noble cause.

kenna: There is that.And besides, I really shouldn't complain.Look at us... we have all the luxuries imaginable, and yet poor Greer is living God knows where.

lola: Oh, I know.

kenna: The money we're taking her should help a little bit.

lola: Whatever her new place looks like, don't say a word.

Kenna: It's bound to be ghastly.Right this way.

Lola: Greer, how can you afford this?

kenna: And who are your new housemates?

Narcisse: You should be able to place them without being seen.Complete with Condé's seal.No one watches the dead.

At the castle:

Bash: The scouts have reported back.The hostages are scattered throughout the monastery, making it impossible for us to rescue all the boys at once.

Mary: And there are still no demands?

Bash: The radicals refuse to make contact.That's not the worst of it.These men have gunpowder... at least 30 barrels of it, from what our scouts could see.

Mary : No, they can't...They're going to kill themselves and the boys.

Bash: If they have no demands, what are they waiting for?

Francis:They're waiting for word to spread.The longer we fear for those boys, the stronger and more powerful that fear becomes.

Mary: Once they feel the terror's taken hold, they'll ignite the gunpowder.Making a name for themselves, and their cause, that we will never forget.

Francis: All this because I sent troops to Scotland for you.I honored our alliance and our marriage after what you planned to do... abandon me and France to run away with your lover.

Mary: I was leaving to reclaim my country and my throne.You would've done the same.

Bash: We can't predict when their madness will decide to end this.Those boys could die at any minute.

Francis: Well, we can't wait any longer.Take your men, and free them now.

Bash: I will carry out your word.And if need be, I will gladly lay down my life for those children.

At the castle: Mary's room

Kenna! I cannot begin to fathom the hatred of someone willing to hurt children.And their hatred only incites more.

Mary: Not just against the radicals, but against all Protestants.And Louis; the timing for his return couldn't be worse.

lola: What about the timing for you and Francis?

mary: Francis and I?Condé left so abruptly.

lola: And you said yourself you weren't sure where you stood with him, now that you're not going to Scotland.You're here. In France.With Francis.

mary: Francis tolerates me in my duty as queen.But there is nothing left of our marriage to salvage.

kenna: Do you honestly believe there's still hope for you and Condé?

mary: We knew that being together wasn't going to be easy.But Louis has risked so much for me.

lola: Mary, I understand what he has done for you.He has helped you through a terrible, painful time.Is it possible you might be confusing gratitude with love?

mary: I'm not going to abandon him.

Francis's office:

Bash: The scouts reported there were only two rebels in the eastern grounds.But after the raid, they admitted they hadn't been sure.

mary: Those boys' lives are still at risk because your men weren't sure?

Francis: These men trained for conflicts so large that a few men would never turn the tides of battle.These are good soldiers, but they were the wrong soldiers, and now three of them are dead because of it.

bash: We knew this was a risk.

Mary: The rebels have now been alerted. They'll be quick to light that gunpowder if we try again.

Bash: Yes. No one in that monastery will survive our next mistake

Catherine: Francis, General Renaude has men at the ready.They are trained for this type of warfare.

Francis: And loyal to Narcisse.I wish that I could trust Narcisse.But everything that he touches just spills more blood.

Bash: I only know Renaude by reputation.He's mercenary and ambitious, but he's good, very good.Take the offer.

mary: Bash is right.No matter what Narcisse's motives, if Renaude can get those boys out safe... he's our only option.

Francis: Do it.And bring them back.

bash: Ready my horse.And send word to General Renaude.

Francis: Be careful.I don't trust Narcisse, and least of all, when he's doing the right thing.

bash: I will.I saw something at the monastery you need to know about.Bodies of some of the radicals that died in the initial assault were laying on the ground just outside the gate.Some of them bore Condé's crest.(sighs)

Francis: Word that Condé's a traitor would spread like wildfire, but... why align himself with these fanatics?He's accepted at court, he has Mary's protection, he has everything that he wants.

bash: I don't know.But while Condé was away, he met with Protestant leaders who were furious with you for sending troops to Scotland.And our spies tell us that even once moderate Protestants speak of rebellion behind closed doors.

Francis: You think Condé is with them?
